End is Nigh by b-a88 End is Nigh by b-a88
I'm doing something a little different with the presentation here. Made the image smaller so that what you see in the full view fits on your screen better and dA doesn't do any processing that messes it up when they are making the image smaller cause I made it smaller myself. Downside is that the download image isn't going to be huge and you won't be able to see the insane details I always tried to preserve before but base don the download numbers....... most people weren't doing that any way and so this gives the majority a better viewing experience. I also added a border to this one, so tell me how you like this way of presenting a photo. :D

More specific to this photo....... I did some fiddling and found that this photo looks miles better with low saturation and it makes the whole photo feel much sharper and higher in quality than it feels in complete full color. I also feel the dark purple colors fit well with what's going on..... this was one of this flower's last days and even in color you can see the damage already done by age to this flower. Those little parts of the flower I don't know the name of are bent all the way down to the pedals and you can see the pollen scattered about around them. So in my mind the low vibrancy and saturation really adds a lot to this photo, addition by subtraction........ I've always wanted to say that. :XD:

I like this shot a lot! I would recommend looking into some LAB color work to tweak with it, you can bring out some amazing colors you didn't know were there! Good job!

Oh geeze, I have no idea where to start with that..... I just use Photoshop's RAW image tool to process my photos now. Thanks for the suggestion though. :D

Oh I know Photoshop quite well, I just don't know LAB color even though I've heard of it before. Sounds like something I should know about. :XD:

A lot of people skip over it. Try this: Collapse your image, and make sure you don't have any ajustment layers. Duplicate your layer, so you have two identical ones. Convert to the lab space: Image->Mode->LAB Color.

Now go to Image->Apply Image

Do these settings:

Layer: Layer 1 (the top most layer of the two you have)
Channel: choose a or b depending on what looks appealing (you can also do this with an additional layer and make that the channel that you didn't chose for the one below it)
Blend Mode: Soft light or Overlay

Click okay

Convert back to RGB, and reduce the opacity on the new layers to your liking. I recommend doing this with portraits. Brings out great color in skin. Have fun!

Thank You Very Much. :D I was actually trying to get the most in focus I could and still have the camera fast enough so that I could hold the camera still enough so that it wouldn't be blurred. :XD: Ideally this would've been a picture where I would've wanted more in focus but I think it worked relatively well this way as well. :D

Yeah, I thought this darker look was much better for the photo than the original colors. The original colors were really bright and I just couldn't get everything looking right with all the saturation and vibrancy in place, it just began to look almost tacky in a way but this feels almost more classy or something that I'm having a hard time identifying. Anyway it just feels so much better like this and all I did was mess with RAW settings in Photoshop.
